We have friendly staff and volunteer, and more than 20 years experience.
A local befriending scheme of volunteers visiting lonely, elderly housebound people in their own homes in BD2/10. We offer to become a friend who visits once a week or fortnight for a chat and a cup of tea.
When friends and family live too far away to make regular contact, our volunteers can provide a little bit of company and friendly social contact, either face-to-face or on the telephone, which helps to reduce feelings of loneliness and increases motivation and confidence. This regular chat provides a vital link into the community to those who can be socially isolated because of restricted mobility or because they can’t access public transport.
The service works by matching each older person to a befriender, who provides friendly conversation and companionship on a regular basis over a long period of time. This relationship not only promotes well being and confidence, but can also help people in later life to remain independent in their own homes.
